GOSSIP VS THE EMOTIONS: MANGLED HEART [IAMXL MASHUP REMIX]

This mashup received some attention when it was originally released in the summer of 2009. Canadian producer Iamxl mashed the disco rockers Gossip featuring their incredible stage animal Beth Ditto with the 70’s disco soul formation The Emotions. An unusual combination that works perfectly.
Download? If you really want this tune then check the Subservient Experiment blog. They probably can help you out.

LAURA MVULA: THAT’S ALRIGHT [SILENT RIDER REMIX]

The one man indie/electronic producing unit Silent Rider offers always something completely new when he remixes anyone. This time he took Laura Mvula’s song “That’s Alright” and gave it a dark and moody face.
By saving the emotion that Laura Mvula gives her song, Silent Rider pushes it even further with his own dramatic arrangements. This tune reflects the natural beauty of darkness.

THE BEATLES: COME TOGETHER [DJ PRINCE 2013 REMIX]

Which band do you prefer, The Beatles or the Rolling Stones? I listened to the Fab Four when I was 5 years old. I was never interested into the Stones.
But surprisingly I care about this big remix of The Beatles“Come Together” by Norway’s DJ Prince.
The bootleg remixing legend added elements by Earth Wind and Fire, James Brown, Ben E. King, George Sember, The Headhunters and the Beastie Boys and presents an unique sounding update of the Liverpool classic. Don’t miss and enjoy!
And please feel free to check this little video edit DJ Prince supplied with his remix.

SHUGGIE OTIS: AHT UH MI HED [DECADES DL EDIT]

A wonderful edit of Shuggie Otis“Aht Uh Mi Hed” tune from 1974. Australian producer duo Decades keep the soul of the original and add own witty brilliance.
Make sure that you don’t miss the very calm mashup video by soulanddance who combined the enchanting Ballet Traidico with this audio gem.

CRUSADERS: STREET LIFE [MOOG & SCRATCH EDIT BY SYNAPSON]

homeless

Some circumstances in my life don’t let me sleep. Sometimes.
The facts: I work in a low-paid job. More than the half of my income I spend for renting my room.
I don’t have much money for buying music. When I buy new music I can’t buy food… sometimes.
I can’t go dancing in clubs when I am not on the guestlist.
I run this little music blog and that’s it.
I don’t wanna end living on the streets because it’s absolutely not the kind of lifestyle I am interested in.
But… nevermind.
Please enjoy The Crusaders“Street Life” edit by Synapson from Paris. And feel blessed if you have a roof and a warm bed and something worth living for: music.
By the way… The photo above has not anything to do with the message of the featured tune “Street Life”.

A.SKILLZ: THINK IT TAKES TWO FEAT. LYN COLLINS

If this remix is not filling your dancefloor then your audience is dumb. Or dead. Or both.
British producer A.Skillz‘ remix of Lyn Collins“Think [About It]”, originally released in 1972 on James Brown‘s own label People Records, is a raving dance tune with no mercy for any crowd. Check it! And go crazy!

OHIO PLAYERS: FIRE [TRISTAN DEE INSTRUMENTAL EDIT]

Ever watched Hell’s Kitchen, a reality cooking competition on Fox TV? You think they’re better ways to waste your lifetime? You’re so right. I never saw that show myself.
But if you ever watched it then you may noticed the theme song of the show: It’s called “Fire” and it’s a recording by the funk outfit Ohio Players, originally released in 1975.
Tristan Dee from Berlin used that tune and produced a wonderful instrumental edit. I think it’s hot! But is it cooking time music?

LAKESIDE: FANTASTIC VOYAGE [STE EDGE SLYTE EDIT]

lakeside

“Fantastic Voyage” is a 1980 funk single by Dayton, Ohio-based group, Lakeside. It was their only #1 hit and is something like the band’s signature song. Unfortunately it was their only real hit. Sometimes it’s not enough to wear funny pirate costumes on stage. Probably their time was too long before Pirates Of The Caribbeans?
British producer SteEdge produced above edit a few years ago for the excellent Edit Records blog. Is this funky? It is.

PRINCE ON BEING COOL

“Cool means being able to hang with yourself. All you have to ask yourself is ‘Is there anybody I’m afraid of? Is there anybody who if I walked into a room and saw, I’d get nervous?’ If not, then you’re cool.”

[Prince Rogers Nelson]

TARAW: LEDISI [SUNSET SUNRISE]

I’m not a huge fan of minimal techno but a nice tune is a nice tune. Osaka’s Taraw took for his “Ledisi [Sunset Sunrise]” track a small vocal excerpt from – surprise – r’n’b singer Ledisi and created a smart grooving Trentemøller inspired piece of music.

FUNKADELIC: NOT JUST KNEE DEEP [DJ YAMIN REMIX]

DJ Yamin from New Orleans took Funkadelic‘s “[Not Just] Knee Deep”, shortened it down from over 15 minutes to 307 seconds and added some De La Soul “Me Myself and Eye” snippets. Good one.

BENNY BENASSI & PUBLIC ENEMY: BRING THE NOIZE [ETC!ETC! TRAPPED REMIX]

You may remember dj Benny Benassi’s 2007 remix of “Bring the Noise”, the hiphop classic by riot rappers Public Enemy. The italian dj and producer won with his production a Grammy for the best Dance Remix the next year.
LA’s ETC!ETC!, one of the big names in the bootleg/edit scene, pushed the tune to the next level: The “ETC!ETC! Trapped Remix” is pure adrenaline. 2013 bass music at it’s best. If you missed it this summer, then go and grab it now!

GEORGE BENSON: GIVE ME THE NIGHT [CHROME CANYON EDIT]

George Benson‘s “Give Me The Night” [released on the same-titled album from 1980] is an all-time classic and probably one of the most edited and remixed tunes in the soundcloud universe. One of the best reworks is provided by Brooklyn’s own Chrome Canyon. He stays with his edit close to the original but adds enough own sexyness for an amazing listening pleasure.

JAMIROQUAI: TOO YOUNG TO DIE [FELKON REMIX]

The british acid jazz band Jamiroquai invited the world a few months ago to remix their classic “Too Young To Die”. Felkon [photo below], a DJ and producer from Dresden [Germany] made the 3rd rank in this competion but for me his remix is definitely #1.
Funky deep house embeds Jamiroquai‘s layered vocals perfectly and when finally this trumpet arrives directly from heaven I can feel always glad for a moment.
Check it on soundcloud, download it from Felkon‘s facebook page and do yourself the favor and share this feeling to your beloved ones.

SLY & THE FAMILY STONE: I AIN’T GOT NOBODY [JACK FROST EDIT]

Beefed-uped drums, some additional panning effects and rearranged segments on this Sly & The Family Stone tune “I Ain’t Got Nobody [For Real]”, originally released on the 1968 album “Dance To The Music”. Edited by San Francisco’s Jack Frost in 2012. One word description: cool.

J.R.FUNK & THE LOVE MACHINE: FEEL GOOD PARTY TIME [SPARKY’S DSD LOFT MIX]

Hypnotic edit of the funk anthem by J.R. Funk & The Love Machine.
The recording is a good example for stone age sampling techniques: The original from 1980 [and this new version] includes James Brown vocal snippets from “Turn Me Loose, I’m Dr. Feelgood”.
This edit was executed in 2012 by sparky Deep Sound Design from Perth, Australia.

PRINCE: CONTROVERSY [DJ OZYBOY 2013 EDIT]

Few effective edits by DJ OzYBoY from Sydney give the Prince classic “Controversy” an update for today’s dancefloors.
“Controversy” is considered Prince‘s breakthrough hit in Australia. Check this rework and you’ll know why.
