That was the vision of George Clinton‘s Parliament band in 1975 when they released their song “Chocolate City”.
Chuck Wild, head honcho at the music blog mixtaperiot.com, got inspired a year ago by the 2nd presidential election win of Barack Obama [the guy who closed Guantanamo], and gave the Parliament classic some fresh edits for another reign.
Charades were a disco/funk studio project by Lotti Golden and R.Alexander. Can’t tell you anything about R.Alexander but Lotti Golden is an American singer-songwriter, poet, journalist, artist, and a cult icon of the late 1960s. In the early 1980s Lotti Golden transitioned from artist to writer/record producer, becoming a major progenitor of electro and early hip hop. “Gimme The Funk” was a not very successful disco funk title when it was released in 1983.
French producer Asker remixed the tune a year ago, and gave it a nice little update. I’m sure that “Gimme The Funk” finds some new friends that way.

“Ohio” is a protest song and counterculture anthem written and composed by Neil Young in reaction to the Kent State shootings in May 1970, and performed by Crosby Stills Nash & Young.
Wikipedia says about the Kent State shootings:
The Kent State shootings (also known as the May 4 massacre or the Kent State massacre) occurred at Kent State University in the U.S. city of Kent, Ohio, and involved the shooting of unarmed college students by the Ohio National Guard on Monday, May 4, 1970. The guardsmen fired 67 rounds over a period of 13 seconds, killing four students and wounding nine others, one of whom suffered permanent paralysis.
Some of the students who were shot had been protesting against the Cambodian Campaign, which President Richard Nixon announced during a television address on April 30. Other students who were shot had been walking nearby or observing the protest from a distance.
There was a significant national response to the shootings: hundreds of universities, colleges, and high schools closed throughout the United States due to a student strike of four million students,[8] and the event further affected the public opinion—at an already socially contentious time—over the role of the United States in the Vietnam War.

I am a huge fan of Janelle Monáe‘s music, and I am always glad when I discover a remix or edit which keeps the fun. That happens unluckily not so much. Swedish producer Oliver Nelson adds to Janelle Monáe‘s “The ArchAndroid”-lead single “Tightrope” some French funk blood and nu disco elements. Tune in and enjoy!

Before I listened to this remix I was sure that I don’t wanna listen to The Eagles‘ “Hotel California” again. It’s a great song, of course. But it’s one of those songs which is played everywhere and everytime and it mostly ends with a nerve-stealing earworm phenomen. I dislike that.
And then I found this: US producer and remixer Consumable Electronica gives “Hotel California” a nice reggae flavor. Damn, it’s an earworm again. But I like it.
This is a subtractive rework of the epic nine a half minute long original recording performed live by Jimi Hendrix & The Band Of Gypsys on December 31, in 1969, which was included on the “Band of Gypsys” album the next year. Suonho, a much travelling italian dj and producer, focused his retouch on the powerful bassline and Buddy Miles‘ crazy scat singing, added another rhythm section and echoes of dub. An essential edit!
A fine simple edit of Sly & The Family Stone‘s “If You Want Me To Stay” by Funk Ferret. The producer from New Zealand extended the intro and outro and paid some attention on the instrumental parts, especially the horn section. I love horns, and that’s what I love on this rework.

Otis Redding was one of the of the greatest singers of soul and rhythm and blues in the 60s. His singing style was powerfully influential among soul artists and helped exemplify the Stax Sound. Otis Redding was a very cool guy who died too young: His life ended abruptly in a plane crash in 1967 at the age of 26.
Swiss mashup producer Cee-Roo paid tribute to this legend with this wonderful blend from 2012, taken from his tribute album “Memories” [downloadable on his website, click his name above].
