BOOTSY COLLINS: BABA BLACK [CLAUDE VONSTROKE EDIT]

Bootsy Collins is one of the biggest names in the history of funk music: He was member in James Brown‘s backing band The JB’s in the early 70s and later bass guitarist for the incredible Funkadelic/Parliament group. He is responsible for tons of funky releases and guest appearances on countless releases: His own and on those who needed some brilliant funkyness.
Bootsy Collins‘ trademark: His driving bass guitar play. You’ll find a wonderful example in this grooving “Baba Black Edit” by American dj and remixer Claude VonStroke. This one is so groooovy!
I found this edit on the electronic music blog Fat Berri’s. Find out by yourself if you have the luck discovering a download option.

JAMES BROWN: PEOPLE GET UP [WET PAINT REMIX]

The Canadian producer duo Wet Paint provides another jewel for James Brown lovers like myself.
“People Get Up And Drive My Funky Soul”, originally released as a single b-side in 1974, received a glitchy horn section, a heavy rumbling breakdown and a proper dose of bass to pack up this delightful remix. “Like” Wet Paint on facebook for info on catching the download.

JAMES BROWN: LICKING STICK [JR. DYNAMITE EDITS]

“Licking Stick” by James Brown was originally released as a single on King Records in 1968 and was later also included on the album “Say It Loud – I’m Black and I’m Proud”.
Sydney’s JR. Dynamite Edits took both two minute short versions of this song and produced this fantastic extended listening pleasure.

JAMES BROWN VS MACEO PARKER: AIN’T IT FUNKY NOW/UPTOWN UP

JamesBrownMaceoParker

The american funk and soul jazz saxophonist Maceo Parker started his career as member of James Brown‘s band in the 1960s.
Some unknown producer is getting this band back together with a mashup of James Brown‘s instrumental hit “Ain’t It Funky Now” from 1969 and Maceo Parker‘s “Uptown Up” from 1988.
Uploaded to soundcloud three years ago this work had less than 350 plays before this post. Sorry, but that is a shame!
Whoever produced this tune is a genius!

JAMES BROWN: THE BOSS [ADSKI EDIT]

James Brown‘s “The Boss” from the soundtrack of the 1973 film Black Caesar in a more drum accentuated edit by UK producer Adski.
Sorry, this track is not available in any shop. But read the liner notes on Adski‘s soundcloud. I could imagine that this is a help if you want a copy of this.

CEE-ROO: MEMORY TO JAMES BROWN

Cee-Roo is a fresh and amazing remixer/mashup producer from Switzerland. In his “James Brown Tribute” mix he combines a few of the king of soul’s classics [“Sex Machine”, “It’s A Man’s World”, …] in a respectful and entertaining way.
This tune is part of an amazing twelve-artists-remixed-album that can be found for free on ceeroo.ch.

JAMES BROWN VS EDWIN STARR: SEX MACHINE TURNS ME ON [DJ PRINCE MASHUP]

One more mashup by Norway’s DJ Prince. For “Sex Machine Turns Me On” he invited James Brown [“Sex Machine”] and Edwin Starr [“Funky Music Turns Me On”] for a funky soul collaboration. Luckily both guys joined the project.
Find more productions by DJ Prince on 3rd Eye Kid here: #DJ Prince.

LYN COLLINS: GIVE IT UP TURN IT LOOSE [LEE CADENA REMIX]

A remix of Lyn Collins‘ funky soul hit “Give It Up, Turn It Loose” [1974], a cover version of the James Brown tune from 1969.
Thank you, Lee Cadena, for this extended version! Well done! It’s a real listening pleasure!

JAMES BROWN: BLIND MAN CAN SEE IT [SAM REDMORE’S SLICK & SHINY RE-EDIT]

An exquisite mashup by UK’s Sam Redmore of James Brown‘s “Blind Man Can See It” versus Nancy Dupree‘s “James Brown”. It’s supposed to be a ‘new school fake soul classic’. I could listen to this mix on heavy rotation.
A free download is not available in this point of time but invest a british pound and get it at bandcamp [click the player above].

A.SKILLZ: THINK IT TAKES TWO FEAT. LYN COLLINS

If this remix is not filling your dancefloor then your audience is dumb. Or dead. Or both.
British producer A.Skillz‘ remix of Lyn Collins“Think [About It]”, originally released in 1972 on James Brown‘s own label People Records, is a raving dance tune with no mercy for any crowd. Check it! And go crazy!

J.R.FUNK & THE LOVE MACHINE: FEEL GOOD PARTY TIME [SPARKY’S DSD LOFT MIX]

Hypnotic edit of the funk anthem by J.R. Funk & The Love Machine.
The recording is a good example for stone age sampling techniques: The original from 1980 [and this new version] includes James Brown vocal snippets from “Turn Me Loose, I’m Dr. Feelgood”.
This edit was executed in 2012 by sparky Deep Sound Design from Perth, Australia.
