KING: SUPERNATURAL [CCXCCSS ’88 MIX]

How funny is that? Prince is the mentor of King. Got it?
Don’t worry. I know it’s not a good joke.
Please check this simple hiphop remix of King‘s “Supernatural” by someone named Dallas Scatterbrain or ccxccss or whatever. I couldn’t find out yet. The information policy on the related soundcloud page is a bit confusing.
But I like what she or he did with this soul ballad. The song received some pepper but not too much. The whole meal isn’t destroyed, still tasty. What is fair enough. Maybe some mastering would be fine but it’s still playable on a college party with small PA’s when people prefer to snog.

MARY J BLIGE: JUST FINE [EL TRAIN REFIX]

It’s time for some refixed r’n’b again: Brighton based electronic music producer Luke Nyeke, or better known to some as El Train, reworked Mary J Blige‘s “Just Fine”, kept the mellow melodic vibe and made it ready for a relaxed but aesthetic dancefloor. Features the deepest voice of the American r’n’b singer so far. Spreaded via the soundcloud page of the interesting Singaporian Darker Than Wax label.

CHARADES: GIMME THE FUNK [ASKER REMIX]

Charades were a disco/funk studio project by Lotti Golden and R.Alexander. Can’t tell you anything about R.Alexander but Lotti Golden is an American singer-songwriter, poet, journalist, artist, and a cult icon of the late 1960s. In the early 1980s Lotti Golden transitioned from artist to writer/record producer, becoming a major progenitor of electro and early hip hop. “Gimme The Funk” was a not very successful disco funk title when it was released in 1983.
French producer Asker remixed the tune a year ago, and gave it a nice little update. I’m sure that “Gimme The Funk” finds some new friends that way.

CROSBY STILLS NASH & YOUNG: OHIO [MARVEL YEARS REMIX]

“Ohio” is a protest song and counterculture anthem written and composed by Neil Young in reaction to the Kent State shootings in May 1970, and performed by Crosby Stills Nash & Young.
Wikipedia says about the Kent State shootings:

The Kent State shootings (also known as the May 4 massacre or the Kent State massacre) occurred at Kent State University in the U.S. city of Kent, Ohio, and involved the shooting of unarmed college students by the Ohio National Guard on Monday, May 4, 1970. The guardsmen fired 67 rounds over a period of 13 seconds, killing four students and wounding nine others, one of whom suffered permanent paralysis.
Some of the students who were shot had been protesting against the Cambodian Campaign, which President Richard Nixon announced during a television address on April 30. Other students who were shot had been walking nearby or observing the protest from a distance.
There was a significant national response to the shootings: hundreds of universities, colleges, and high schools closed throughout the United States due to a student strike of four million students,[8] and the event further affected the public opinion—at an already socially contentious time—over the role of the United States in the Vietnam War.

This remix by Marvel Years aka Cory Wythe for his parents is an intense sub bass monster. Play very loud and feel the energy of this old classic in a new millenium. You can show protest and go on your neighbour’s nerves with this… today.

ISLEY BROTHERS: SUMMER STEEZE [DJ YAMIN DUB]

“Summer Breeze” was originally recorded by Seals and Crofts and covered in a harder rock/soulful style by the Isley Brothers in 1973. “Summer Steeze” is a charming, very relaxed dub by DJ Yamin from New Orleans, based on the Isley Brothers cover version. Boys and girls, I need some more sunshine… now!

I am a huge fan of Janelle Monáe‘s music, and I am always glad when I discover a remix or edit which keeps the fun. That happens unluckily not so much. Swedish producer Oliver Nelson adds to Janelle Monáe‘s “The ArchAndroid”-lead single “Tightrope” some French funk blood and nu disco elements. Tune in and enjoy!

THE EAGLES: HOTEL CALIFORNIA [CONSUMABLE ELECTRONICA TWISTED REMIX]

Before I listened to this remix I was sure that I don’t wanna listen to The Eagles“Hotel California” again. It’s a great song, of course. But it’s one of those songs which is played everywhere and everytime and it mostly ends with a nerve-stealing earworm phenomen. I dislike that.
And then I found this: US producer and remixer Consumable Electronica gives “Hotel California” a nice reggae flavor. Damn, it’s an earworm again. But I like it.

JOHNNY HAMMOND: LOS CONQUISTADORES CHOCOLATES [DIMITRI FROM PARIS SUPER JIZZO BRAKES]

Johnny Hammond was an American soul jazz and hard bop organist [died in 1997]. He influenced pretty much every soul, jazz, rare groove and funk artist who’ve followed in his path, and the joyously unpredictable “Los Conquistadores Chocolates” is one of his best releases.
This wonderful remix by Dimitri From Paris was published in Japan and is now worldwide available through the amazing Sounds Of The 70s blogspot.

DE LA SOUL FEAT. CHAKA KHAN: ALL GOOD [NOTFX REMIX]

Very dancefloor friendly remix-update of the collaboration tune “All Good” by the alternative hiphop trio De La Soul from Long Island and funk’n’soul legend Chaka Khan.
The song talks about people who abandoned or shunned De La Soul after their initial commercial success and popularity took a dive, and those who attempt to hop back on the bandwagon. The title of the song is a phrase implying that something is either okay [“all good”] or not okay [“it ain’t all good”] as sung by Chaka Khan, during the chorus.
This remix is produced by German producer NotFX from Munich.
Sounds a bit like Timbaland in his good phase.

BILL WITHERS & GROVER WASHINGTON JR.: JUST THE TWO OF US [DJ YAMIN REMIX]

I am glad to present to you the great DJ Yamin with another of his spicy edits. This time he used Bill Withers & Grover Washington, Jr.‘s “Just The Two Of Us” and produced a lovely soul breaks ballad. The additional percussion creates a very calm vibe inside of the 1981 original. Yes, I’m absolutely down with this and most of DJ Yamin‘s stuff.

OUTKAST: MS. JACKSON [JEAN TONIQUE REMIX]

When Outkast released “Ms. Jackson” in January 2001, the song immediately became a crossover smash hit. You couldn’t turn on the radio or MTV without hearing or seeing Outkast members Andre 3000 and Big Boi telling us their Ms. Jackson fairytale.
This remix by French producer Jean Tonique turns “Ms. Jackson” into a different tune. The smart bassline and crisp beats will bring you back to the days when you secretly loved this tune. But lot of things changed since then. And that’s good.

SLY & THE FAMILY STONE: FAMILY AFFAIR [ORLANDO VOORN’S HOUSE MIX]

Manaboo is a project by electronic music producers Brendon Moeller and Shigeru Tanabu. It is their mutual love of jazz, dub and techno that is the inspiration for their tunes.
Today’s featured track from 2010 is something outstanding: The soul of soul singer Curtis Mayfield joined the Manaboo duo without knowing for a fine minimal techno soul ballad.
